Got questions?
1. Which barbell is right for me?
2. What is the difference between weightlifting and powerlifting bars?
Weightlifting bars are specifically designed for Olympic weightlifting. They offer more spin through high-quality bearings or bushings, allowing the plates to rotate smoothly. This reduces stress on the wrists and forearms during dynamic exercises such as the clean and snatch. In addition, they provide more whip – targeted flexibility – which supports athletes during lifts and enables smoother, more powerful movements.
Powerlifting bars, on the other hand, are deliberately constructed to be stiffer. In exercises such as squats, bench presses, and deadlifts, maximum stability is crucial to move heavy loads safely. Less flexibility ensures that the bar remains stable even under the heaviest loads. The especially aggressive knurling guarantees optimal grip and prevents slipping – a decisive factor for safety and maximum performance in powerlifting.

3. What lengths are available?
Men’s bars: 220 cm | Women’s bars: 201 cm | Compact models: 150–180 cm – ideal for small training spaces or for lower weight loads, such as the Zeta model.
4. How heavy is a barbell?
A men’s bar weighs 20 kg, a women’s bar 15 kg. For absolute beginners, we offer the Theta technique aluminum bar. It weighs only 7.5 kg and makes it easy for anyone to start barbell training.
5. What is the ideal grip diameter?
Standard: 28 mm or 25 mm – thinner for smaller hands, thicker for larger hands.
6. What is knurling for?
Knurling guarantees you a secure grip. A center knurl provides additional grip on the back during squats.
7. What type of knurling do you use?
We use medium volcano knurling on all models for optimal grip without tearing up the hands – with the exception of our powerlifting bars, which feature aggressive knurling.
8. What types of bearings do you use?
In our premium and all-round bars, we use ball and needle bearings from the Japanese manufacturer NSK for smooth rotation and dynamic lifts.
9. Which material and coating are best?
Hard chrome for the best grip and rust protection; Cerakote ceramic coating for colored models, offering high durability without fading or rust.
10. What does the PSI rating mean?
11. How should I store my barbell properly?
Ideally, store it horizontally on a wall mount such as our Blade, or on the J-hooks of a power rack. Do not leave it lying on the floor with weights loaded for extended periods.
12. Which weight plates do I need?
For weightlifting, we recommend bumper plates, which are ideal for safely dropping the bar. For classic strength training, gripper plates are suitable, as their handles make them particularly easy to handle. A mix of small and large plates is important for training flexibility. A 95 kg set is usually more than sufficient for most beginners.
13. What can you train with a barbell?
The barbell is a fundamental training tool that can be used to train almost every muscle group. Core exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bench presses, and overhead presses are especially effective in developing functional strength, coordination, and muscle growth. The barbell has long been established in both professional and recreational sports and offers numerous training possibilities thanks to its versatility.
14. What is the 'whip' of a barbell?
The whip is the flex or bend of the bar under load. This is desirable in Olympic weightlifting bars, as it supports the dynamics of exercises such as the snatch and the clean & jerk. In contrast, powerlifting bars are designed to have minimal whip, ensuring the bar remains stiff for maximum force transfer.
15. How do I maintain my barbell?
Regular cleaning of sweat and dirt is essential. For uncoated or simply coated bars, it may be necessary to occasionally treat them with rust protection spray or oil to prevent surface rust. Bearings should be checked regularly and lubricated if needed.
16. Should I buy a special barbell?
For beginners, all-round barbells – such as the ATLETICA Delta barbell – are usually more than sufficient. Specialized barbells (e.g., powerlifting bars) are designed for the specific demands of the sport (e.g., stiffer steel, specific knurling or markings) and are more commonly used by advanced athletes.
