Step-by-step instructions for cutting and laying the floor protection mats:

1. Safety First — Wear protective gloves to prevent cuts.
2. Gear Up — Use a sharp carpet or utility knife with a straight edge. 
3. Prep the Area — Think flat and level and protect the cutting surface (table or floor) with cardboard or a similar material. 
4. Measure and Mark — Carefully measure and mark your cut line with chalk or lightly score with the knife. 
5. Make the Cut — Place the straight edge along the measured line and cut firmly and smoothly in one motion. Repeat until fully separated. Spreading the mat apart as you go will reduce friction. 
6. Optimize Cutting Efficiency — Lightly moisten the blade with soapy water for smoother cutting but, be careful because it can also increase the risk of blade slippage.
   
7. Cover any gaps with black tape to prevent dust and dirt from getting in.
